Despite their reputation as 'web wizards', teenagers have more difficulty using poorly-constructed websites than adults do, a US study has found.
Work carried out for web usability guru Jakob Nielsen found that overly wordy sites and those with long load times and poor navigation turned off 13 to 18 year olds faster than they did older people.
The Nielsen study found flashy graphics were no help if the teens decided the site was not worth reading.
They suggest that lower boredom thresholds and lesser literacy skills among teens may make them an even harder internet audience to please than adults.
