WWT Photography Competition

WWT Photography Competition Website

Web Design | Social Media Strategy

The Brief

National conservation charity the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust wanted a website for their annual photography competition that would encourage increased engagement with the contest and the charity and raise awareness of their UK-wide visitor centres.

They also wanted to ensure the site was easy for their staff to use, to keep down the administrative burden of the competition which had been time-intensive in previous years.

Our Work

We created a site that integrated with social media and actively encouraged online sharing of images and vote canvassing.

Through email, Facebook and Twitter, entrants were able to promote their images - and the competition - virally.

User-focussed front and back-end systems meant administrators were able to place, judge and categorise images with just a single click - significantly reducing staff time spent on the competition.

The Result

Driven by social media and online sharing, the site saw the competition attract a record 6,000 entries, with 56,000 votes cast in the three months it was running.

This represented a 500% increase on previous years - while reducing the amount of work staff needed to carry out to organise the competition.

As a result of this success, WWT are now considering making the annual competition a quarterly one.
